District 5 Meeting Report, May 2017

District 5 Meeting Report

Joelle and Bill Snyder attended the IRSPA District 5 meeting on May 11, 2017.

·         The 2017 IRSPA state conference will be in Waterloo/Cedar Falls on October 4 and 5.  Proposed changes in the by-laws will be voted on.  One significant proposed change is to allow “associate memberships” for who are interested in education issues.  The proposed changes to the by-laws will be published in the next two issues of the IRSPA newsletter.

·         It is vital to keep recruiting new members. The IRSPA benefits are a good selling point, especially the dental and vision plans.

·         IPERS is a very stable pension system.  Be sure to keep your beneficiary information up to date. It is important to make sure your beneficiaries are aware of your IPERS elections. Also make sure that your wills and trust instructions are up to date. Expect the governor to appoint a special working group to study IPERS changes for the next legislative session.

·         IRSPA members volunteered 413,291 hours valued at $9,737,135.30 between August 2015 and September 2016.
